If you live in an area that gets dry in the summer or experiences droughts, watering your lawn and landscaped yard might give you second thoughts. Finding the right balance between efficient lawn sprinklers and water conservation is key. Just because you live somewhere dry doesn't mean you need to throw in the towel on lawn upkeep in order to conserve water effectively. Here are three lawn watering tips when it comes to yard upkeep in dry climates.
1. Keep Up With Sprinkler Maintenance
Leaking or misaligned sprinkler heads will waste precious water and won't effectively water your lawn. Leaks at the base of a sprinkler will cause water to pool which won't properly absorb into your lawn. Incorrectly aimed sprinkler heads that spray water on pathways or the side of your home instead of your lawn is a waste of resources. Make sure that your sprinkler system is double checked at the beginning of the dry season and is well maintained for the best use of water.
2. Maintain Trouble Spots With Additional Reused Water
Sprinklers are a great way to evenly spread water, but you still might battle with trouble spots such as hard to maintain plants
3. Use Timers for Effective Water Usage
Having your sprinkler system on a timer is key to keeping your lawn green, but not wasting too much water. The best time to water is in the evening or early hours of the morning. This will give the ground a chance to absorb water into the roots before the heat sets in again the next day. Setting your sprinkler system on a timer will ensure that you keep a schedule and don't forget to water. Setting this for 5 to 10 minute waterings with at least a half hour break in between will keep dry lawns from flooding and will allow time for absorption.
Having an effective, well maintained sprinkler system can help you efficiently use water. Make sure that you are watering your yard correctly and at the right time of day. Following lawn watering and sprinkler tips will keep your yard looking great without wasting water. To learn more, speak with a business like Krupske Sprinkler Systems.
